Colorado Seed Growers

New Computer
Program
| The CSGA office
has purchased a new computer program in cooperation with the Colorado Seed
Lab. The old program, R-Base, was not reliable and we could not find a
support person for the system. In addition, RBase was not Y2K compliant
which was very significant because the fiscal year for CSGA began May I
st. The 1999-2000 year may have triggered problems with the program when
the old system was used after May 1. The new program has been in operation
since March I st, and we are confident that it will serve us well. The
new program is called Pure Harvest, and was created by Elmwood Solutions
of St. Paul, Minnesota. |
| This program
was originally created for the Minnesota Crop Improvement Association,
but much of it fit the needs of the Colorado Seed Growers. We worked for
several months with Bob Treumann, of Elmwood Solutions, to tailor the program
to our needs. Our office is currently involved in fine-tuning the system.
One of the reasons we chose Pure Harvest was because of its base program,
Oracle, which is a major business system used worldwide. While CSGA is
a relatively small business, we do share a very large data base of information
with the Colorado Seed Lab. For this reason, RBase, D-Base, Fox Pro and
Access were all considered too small in their capacity to hold and integrate
all of the data we store in the system. Oracle is a much more powerful
system and has the capability of growing with us. |
If we keep up with the changes as they develop, our system should not become
obsolete. You as a grower will ultimately be able to call into the Pure
Harvest system with a pin number, and access your records! No more misplaced
reports or field numbers. You will also be able to check on the progress
of a sample in the Lab. This should become a very valuable feature for
our growers as they join the computer age with the use of the Internet.
